Verse motions with the bucket10 min

On the porch. Three motions. Hand Logan one stone for the cup motion and one for the lift. Caleb watches from the chair.

In the chair with the rock board book.

Materials

Words

Teach point

Two stones in two hands lets Logan feel weight. The motions get a small physical anchor.

Three containers, one cup of water25 min

On the back porch table, set out three containers in a line. A small kitchen cup, a quart jug, a basin. Logan pours water from cup to jug, then jug to basin. Watch the water level rise in each one. Ask which holds more. Then pour it all back into the cup to start again.

On the towel beside the porch with two plastic cups. Show him pour from one to the other. Name full and empty.

Materials

Words

Teach point

Volume is not size. The same water looks full in the cup and almost nothing in the basin. Logan starts to see that containers have different jobs.

If the day goes sideways

If storms hit, move to the bathtub with the same three containers. Even a half inch in the tub is enough.

Predict and check10 min

Show Logan the cup and a new container, a yogurt tub. Ask him to guess if the cup will fill it, overflow it, or leave it half empty. Pour and check.

On the towel with the same two cups. Pour back and forth.

Words

Teach point

A guess is the start of science. Logan does not need to be right. He needs to make a guess and then see.

Lunch table prompt5 min

At the table, ask Logan which container holds the most water. Use his hands to compare cup-size to basin-size. Caleb gets a small cup to drink from with one hand.

Afternoon30 min

At the side of the house with the garden hose spigot. Fill the small bucket halfway. Logan carries it to the porch. Talk about heavy and light.

At the kitchen counter on a towel. Three plastic cups in a row. Pour from one to the next slowly. Watch the water move down the line.

Porch sit with the jug15 min

On the porch glider with the empty jug at your feet. Logan tells you what the jug did today. Verse once.

Teach point

Naming what something did is the start of memory.

Tomorrow

Friday is the recap walk. Logan picks the keeper stone for the windowsill.

For Carlton, prep5 min ceiling

For Rachel, pacing

This is the busiest day. The three containers and the predict-and-check together fill the morning. Lunch hard reset. Afternoon should be slow.

If the day runs hot, drop this first: Drop the bucket fill outdoor block if Logan is tired or it is over 95 by noon. The counter pour line indoors is the fallback that still teaches the same idea.

When the day is done Send a photo from today. I'll put the recap together tonight.
