Verse motions and stone count10 min

On the porch with the stones from Friday. Three verse motions together. Then count the stones one at a time as Logan puts them back in the bucket.

In the porch chair with the rock board book. Tap each picture with a finger. Name rock and bucket.

Materials

Words

Teach point

Repeating the verse motions every morning builds the habit. Counting up to four reinforces one-to-one correspondence for Logan.

Chalk channels on the driveway25 min

On the driveway. Sidewalk chalk to draw a wide slope downhill on a flat section. Pour one cup of water at the top. Watch the water follow the chalk line. Place three stones in the path. Water goes around them. Move one stone, watch the water change course.

On the porch in the shade with a small watering can and a basin. Pour and fill. Name full and empty.

Materials

Words

Teach point

Water follows the lowest path. When a stone blocks the path, the water finds a new low spot. Logan sees that the rocks did not move but the water did. This is the same lesson as the pour patterns from Friday, scaled up.

If the day goes sideways

If the heat is winning by 10:30 or storms roll in, move to the kitchen floor with a tray propped on a book. Same chalk lines on paper, same stones, same pour.

Dam and release10 min

Same chalk channel. Logan puts a flat stone across the channel as a dam. Pour. Water pools behind the stone. Lift the stone. Water rushes through. Talk about pool and release.

On the porch with a sponge in his hand and a bowl. Squeeze and release. Name squeeze.

Words

Teach point

A dam stops water for a while but does not erase it. When the dam is gone, the water moves again. This is the channel idea with a pause.

Lunch table prompt5 min

At the table, ask Logan to point to which way the water went around the stones this morning. Show with his finger. Caleb gets a teaspoon to stir his water cup.

Afternoon30 min

Walk the front sidewalk together. Logan finds two more small stones for the bucket. Name where each one came from on the way to the corner.

Pour the bucket onto a kitchen towel on the living room rug. Logan sorts the stones into two piles. Big and little. No right answer. Just the sorting.

Back porch glider, after supper15 min

On the glider with Logan in your lap. Watch one tree in the yard. Hold one stone. Say the verse once quietly.

Teach point

The same end-of-day shape every weekday. Body memory.

Tomorrow

Tuesday is listening to the rain on a metal pan. If it does not rain, the watering can stands in.

For Carlton, prep5 min ceiling

For Rachel, pacing

The chalk channel block is the day. The dam-and-release extension is the cherry on top. If the morning is hot, skip the extension.

If the day runs hot, drop this first: Drop the afternoon sidewalk walk if Caleb is fighting the stroller or Logan is melting.

When the day is done Send a photo from today. I'll put the recap together tonight.
