Recap walk and the keeper stone

Rocks stay. Water moves. Six days to notice both.

Date Friday, June 5 Verse Joshua 4:6

Pflugerville today

  • Pflugerville Public Library kids' calendar storytime, baby time, move and groove. Check the week for slots.

Verse motions and bucket review10 min

On the porch. Three motions. Then dump the bucket gently onto a kitchen towel. Logan sees the whole week of stones. Six or eight stones now. Talk about which ones came from which day.

In the chair beside Logan with the rock board book and a single smooth stone in his hand.

Words

Teach point

A review is a memorial. Logan sees the work of the week in one pile.

Recap walk around the block25 min

Walk around the block with Logan. Bring the small bucket. Pick up six small stones along the way, one at a time. At each one, say one word from the week. Pour. Channel. Drop. Puddle. Full. Stone. Back at the porch, lay the six stones in a line. Logan picks the keeper. That one goes on the windowsill. The other five go back to the front yard.

Caleb in the stroller for the walk. Hand him one smooth stone to hold the whole way. Name it. Stone. Hold. Mine.

Materials

Words

Teach point

The week's words come out of the mouth one at a time, attached to one stone each. The keeper stone is the first windowsill marker for the summer.

If the day goes sideways

If it is storming or above 95 by walk time, do the recap in the front yard only. Same six stones, same keeper.

Windowsill placement10 min

Inside, Logan places the keeper on the kitchen windowsill. Stand back and look. Talk about which way the stone faces the morning sun.

On the kitchen floor with the bucket and the smooth stone he carried.

Words

Teach point

The keeper stone is a small thing in a big room. That is the point. It is a memorial.

Lunch table prompt5 min

At the table, ask Logan which word was his favorite this week. Use the stones in front of him if he needs the prompt. Caleb gets a cup of water with one ice cube.

Afternoon30 min

On the porch table, set the cup, jug, and basin from Thursday next to the lake stones from Monday. Logan does one slow pour through all three containers with one stone in his other hand.

At the table, Logan picks the keeper stone off the windowsill and brings it down. Trace it on paper with a pencil. Color it in. Set the drawing on the fridge.

Front porch sit at sundown15 min

On the porch glider after the day cools. The keeper stone is back on the windowsill. The empty bucket sits at Logan's feet. Verse once.

Teach point

The week ends with the stone in its new place. The bucket waits for next week.

Tomorrow

The weekend is rest. Next week the page changes. The first regular week is Monday, June 8. The theme is channels and basins. The keeper stone stays on the sill.

For Carlton, prep5 min ceiling

For Rachel, pacing

This is the Friday close. The walk is the day. Lunch then afternoon then porch sit. If the heat is bad, do the front-yard-only fallback and still finish with the windowsill placement.

If the day runs hot, drop this first: Drop the indoor stone drawing if anyone is melting. The keeper on the windowsill is the only required end-state.

When the day is done Send a photo from today. I'll put the recap together tonight.
